Challenging Times
We're getting down to brass tacks!
This last Sunday saw not one, but two major challenges issued to our congregation!
The first came from our musicians.
As many of you know, we run a food pantry at the corps which provides food for families and individuals on a regular basis. With the economic conditions the way they are the need has gone way up, and donations haven't been able to keep pace.
To help alleviate this situation, the band and songsters are challenging the congregation for the month of May to see who can donate the most RTE ("ready to eat") items to the food pantry. No matter who wins the challenge, the food pantry and the people it serves, comes out on the winning side! More details to follow.
The second challenge came at the end of Major Clay's sermon - which you can hear again, or for the first time, here.
As the graphic above states, 80% of church-goers never read through the Bible. Major Clay is doing a series of sermons which are based on christian discipline, and this week's sermon is based on the discipline of reading and studying God's Word. To provide an aid to our discipline, we were all challenged to take the "E100 challenge". Major Clay also provided materials to help us finish this challenge which will have our congregation read the essential parts of the Bible in a year. If you would like to download the reading plan and progress tracker then click here.
As we get underway we encourage you to issue the challenge to others. You'll keep yourself accountable and you'll encourage them, too!
