Carols From Concord

'Tis the season!

As our gift for the season we'd like to present some Christmas Carols and Songs sung by a packed house in our Sanctuary on December 19th, 2009. There's no fancy engineering, production or editing here - just a bunch of folks enjoying the Christmas Spirit!

As you enjoy these sounds, we'd like to wish you a very blessed Christmas for you and those near and dear to you!

The Gift

This week Major Clay Gardner "wraps up" his sermon series entitled "Love Comes..." with the adverb "...generously!"

You won't want to miss this powerful teaching in a sermon entitled "
The Gift".

Also listen to our congregation sing "
The First Nowell", and our band accompany Daniel Prince in the Cornet Solo "Love Came Down at Christmas".

Merry Christmas to all indeed!

All I Want For Christmas

All I want
Wow, can you believe it? This time next week people will be asking, "What did you get for Christmas?" Already there has been that great annual tension - between common sense and marketing! ... between caution and generosity.

I've whipped out my credit card a couple of times this season - I mean a couple of times that I hadn't intended to - and did it with nary a thought. After all, generosity is what Christmas is all about! ...no? Are you sure?

Well, every year out come the movies that remind us of yesteryear, when things were simple and didn't cost so much to make us happy. I think we all yearn for those days. Sure we didn't have so much to give - but we likewise didn't expect so much.

Then... I was also reminded of
A Christmas Carol where Ebenezer Scrooge was a cranky old soul until he learned to be generous!! Thinking of that reminded me that Christmas really is all about being generous - expect nothing, but give everything. That's the kind of love that God Himself modeled for us. 2 Cor 8:9, "For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. that though He was rich, yet for your sake He became poor, so that you through His poverty might become rich."

Love comes Generously - especially this time of year! I see it everyday, in the selfless giving of scores and scores of people, stopping by our kettles, our office and the post office. Our Toy & Joy shop is filled with food and toys because of generosity.

And all of that giving is modeled after the generosity of God.

Major Clay

We're ready!

We've rehearsed for weeks. The carols are all hung on our stands with care. We're tuned up and warmed up! We've scoured the globe for the best of songs for you to enjoy.

It would be so disappointing if you didn't show up!

See you Saturday!Concord Carol Sing 09 ad

All for a baby!

baby_jesus_4
We are very fortunate to have good musicians and no shortage of good music in our worship service each week. Here is a ladies' voice trio from our worship on Sunday December 13th entitled "All for a baby". We hope you are blessed by the singing of Susan, Debbie, and Karen.

Professional Courtesy

Professional Etiquette

Why was it that the angel choir over Bethlehem made their glorious announcement to shepherds? According to Major Clay it was because of professional courtesy!

You won't want to miss this intriguing third sermon in our advent series "Love comes...".

This week the adverb is "gloriously!" Listen to Major Clay's sermon here.

Our bonus tracks this week include our congregation singing "
O come all ye faithful", the band playing "Christmas Praise" (whoever thought you could play "Away in a Manger" as a March?!), and our songsters singing "Rise up shepherd and follow".

Love comes gently

We have been doing some upgrades to our sound and recording systems this past week and don't have all the gremlins banished from it yet! The unfortunate part is that we are not able to bring you the 2nd in our sermon series for advent entitled "Love comes...". Suffice it to say that Cadet Brent Church who is assisting our church this christmas brought a blessing to the congregation.

We are pleased to say that we are able to let you hear some of the music from our worship time. You can hear the songsters sing "
Love came gently", the band play "Greensleeves" and our congregation singing "See amid the winter's snow".

As an added bonus we were delighted to welcome Kathy Wallace who is the sister of our Songster leader, Susan Pierce. Kathy, accompanied by Susan, sang for us "
Welcome to our world". Kathy and her husband Mark currently live and work in Singapore.

We hope you've remembered to put our amazing
Christmas Songfest on your calendar and are planning to attend. It's Saturday, December 19th at 7:00 pm.

Unfaithfully Yours

john-14-27

On this first Sunday of Advent Major Clay starts a new sermon series entitled "Loves comes...". This week he speaks about how love comes graciously to us. The title of his sermon is "Unfaithfully Yours" and you can hear it here.

Also you might want to listen to our Songsters sing "
Lo how a rose e'er blooming" and the Band play "By the light of that star".

An added bonus is to hear the band and congregation singing "
Away in a manger". Every year at this time Bandmaster Jim Black plays his mother's favorite christmas carol, Once in Royal David's City, as an offertory. You can hear this short piano interlude here.

A Thanksgiving Wish

One of our church members sent us this piece of Thanksgiving doggerel - much too good not to share!

May your stuffing be tasty
And your turkey be plump,
May your 'tatoes and gravy
Have never a lump.
May your yams be delicious
And your pies take the prize,
May your Thanksgiving dinner
Stay off of your thighs!
Happy Thanksgiving!
