Serving Our Community
Opportunities for Volunteers -2009
We are a "faith-driven" provider of services to our community through the generous support of our donors. If you would like to support by giving money we have many ways to make it as easy as possible. For checks and online giving please click here to see the instructions under the red kettle. If you would like to speak with someone directly about a gift, legacy, estate, or other planned giving, please call the office or email Major Clay Gardner.
If you’d like to help please call (925) 676-6180 and let our receptionist know the area you are interested in. We will need your name and a phone number (also an email address if you’d like us to contact you in that way) so that we can contact you. We ask that any young people under the age of 15 be accompanied by an Adult. For school community hours please bring your paperwork with you.
All the activities (except for the Toy & Joy Set up and Distribution, Childspree, some basketball games, camp transportation, and the Community Care Ministries Gift Distribution), take place on our local campus:
The Salvation Army Community Church,
3950 Clayton Road,
Concord, CA 94521
Thanks in advance for what you’ll do to help bring comfort and joy in our community.

Distribution Day => At our Christmas Warehouse location we need help for families who have pre-registered with us in the following areas: food and toy pickup; family check-in; escorting parents through the Toy & Joy shop; re-stocking toys; boxing food items appropriate for the family size and helping to take these items to the family's car. Other areas that we can use help on this day are cleaning up at the end of the event; packing up toys and food. Cleaning up the warehouse so we can vacate the property. You can choose to come in and help in the morning or afternoon depending on your schedule. It is always nice to have new volunteers come in and help with clean up from 2:00-4:00pm.
Here are some other examples of immediate (non-Christmas) needs:-
Our After School Tutoring Program is always looking for qualified volunteers to mentor young people with homework, reading math, ... As well as being qualified in a particular subject, as you would expect we require our volunteers working with children to pass a law-enforcement background check. If you'd like to help, please call the office (see above) or email Will Harper.
Our Advisory Board is made up of leaders and opinion influencers in our community who serve on committees which help with identifying opportunities for service and the financing to make service in the community possible. If you know of someone (including yourself!) whom you think would be interested in this effort, call the office (see above) and ask for Major Clay Gardner or email the advisory board chairman Chuck Graham.
